About Us

A field guide to the strange.

What Mystery Routes is, how locations make the cut, and how anyone can add useful context.

Why we exist

Mystery Routes exists to document the world's most unusual, mysterious, historic, unexplained, and culturally significant places in a way that is organized, accessible, and enjoyable to explore.

The goal is not to prove or disprove. It is to document, preserve, and give context.

We serve as a curated archive of places that inspire curiosity and encourage deeper exploration of history, culture, mythology, and the unknown. Not to settle legends, but to keep them.

01Curation

How locations are selected

A place may be included due to one or more of the following:

01Historical significance02Cultural significance03Local legends & folklore04Paranormal reports05UFO or unexplained sightings06Cryptid reports07Abandoned or unusual sites08Strange or unsolved mysteries09Community submissions10Verified submissions

Inclusion does not imply endorsement or verification of every claim associated with a location.

02Documentation

How we handle the record

Many of these stories are unverified by nature. When confirmation is available, we look for it in places like:

Government recordsHistorical archivesAcademic publicationsReputable journalismLocal historical societiesMuseum collectionsFirsthand accountsCommunity research

Where something can be confirmed, we note it. Where it can't, we keep documented facts separate from reported claims so you can read the legend without us pretending to be the final say.
